iPhone price cut predicted
Rumours are spreading that O2 is poised to lower the price of the iPhone for UK consumers.
The trade magazine, Mobile Today has boldly predicted that the 8GB version of the device will be cut in price from £269 to £169.
If this forecast comes true it would put the UK price below the retail cost in the USA.
The magazine did not specify whether it thought the 16GB model, which currently sells for £329, would also have a cost reduction.
Speculation has been fuelled by a cut in the retail price in Germany last week.
So what would the reasons be for cutting the price? Analysts believe that it would help retailers clear their stock for the 3G version of the iPhone which is tipped to be unveiled in June at a San Francisco developers' conference.
O2 has so far ignored pressure to cut the iPhone price; but has revised its text and call bundle for the £35 tariff to 600 minutes and 500 texts.
The price cut is expected to be announced tomorrow.
