iPhone Voted Most Iconic Mobile in 25 Years

iPhone Voted Most Iconic Mobile in 25 Years A recent survey undertaken by the University of Salford has shown the Apple iPhone to be the most memorable phone to be launched over the last 25 years. Meanwhile, Nokia has emerged as the top manufacturer.

The top ten list was compiled to celebrate the mobile phone being around in the UK for quarter of a century. Apple's iPhone was the clear winner with 13.5 per cent of the vote.

560 people took part in the survey, with over 2,000 votes cast. In second place came the Nokia 3210, the first phone to have changeable covers. Also to make the top 10 was the Nokia 7110, inspired by The Matrix and popularised by Keifer Sutherland in the first series of 24.

Nokia showed its dominance in the market with five models to make the top 10 overall. Motorola made three entries onto the list.

Professor Linge, who headed up the survey said: “I am not surprised that the Apple iPhone topped our poll, for it became a design classic the moment it was launched and truly transformed the design of mobile phones. Personally though, I'm nostalgic for the Motorola StarTAC which was the world's first clam shell phone but it fell outside of our top ten, being in twelfth place.“

The list is as follows with the most popular in first place: Apple iPhone, Nokia 3210, Nokia 6310, Nokia 5100 range, Motorola Razr V3, Blackberry 8300 Curve, Motorola 8000 range, Nokia 9000, Motorola MicroTAC and the Nokia 7110 bring up the rear.
