iPhone Video Calling Updated With New Fring App
Video calling has become one of the iPhone’s most-pushed features. Available originally for iPhone to iPhone calls alone, a newly updated app has branched out the function to a wider variety of smartphones.
FaceTime was the software pre-installed in the new iPhone 4, offering a video calling experience like no other. However, with the vastly improved visual and aural quality came several disadvantages. Aside from the lack of compatibility with other mobile brands, the device only worked in Wi-Fi areas, forsaking 3G.
Fring has been developed as an app to improve on FaceTime's flaws. The app removes restrictions on phone calling, widening the range of video calling recipients to Android and Nokia S60 users. The 3G aspect is also included, giving a greater area for users to call from.
Beyond these prominent feature enhancements, several options currently unseen on FaceTime are present on Fring. Operating since 2006, Fring has only recently increased its services to include video calling - social networking made the app popular in its earlier days.
Fring can operate behind the scenes as consumers use their phones for other things, also periodically updating its own social stream with Twitter's tweets. It displays recent Facebook activities and creates a manageable and simple address book from pre-entered contacts.
Worries that consumers' older iPhone models will not work with Fring have been put to rest. The previous model, known as the iPhone 3GS, will be fully capable of using the app.
Those interested in Fring can find it in Apple’s App Store, accessed via iTunes, at no cost.
