iPhone 4S Battery Problem New Antennagate

iPhone 4S Battery Problem New Antennagate A significant number of iPhone 4S owners have been complaining of substandard battery performance on their new handsets, and Apple appears to be taking a similar stance of silence as it did during the ‘antennagate’ furore after the iPhone 4 launch.

A flood of visitors to Apple’s support forum have been complaining about the battery problems on the new handset, despite Apple’s marketing SVP Phil Schiller claiming during the phone’s launch that the it had “industry leading” battery life performance. Many users are currently finding their devices run out of juice after as little as only half a day’s usage.

According to a report in the Guardian recently, Apple has been in touch with some users to try to find a solution. It was suggested that time zone settings on the new OS may be draining battery life by constantly contacting cell towers to determine a user’s location and adjust the time accordingly, but users who switched this feature off said it failed to improve their battery performance.

While the iPhone 4S battery is only slightly more powerful than its predecessor’s battery, the hardware upgrades, such as the dual-core A5 prcoessor, should not be enough to justify such poor performance.

With the in-house iPhone 4S on Vodafone here at Epic Mobiles, while we have been disappointed by the battery life of the device (and turning location services off has not improved things), it has not been poor enough to warrant major complaint. However, having been advised to return our handset for a replacement due to major 3G/Wi-Fi connection problems, we cannot use it as a reliable benchmark for a fully-functioning device!

Given Apple’s previous record for delayed announcements, it may well be a few weeks before we get an official response on the issue...
