Windows Mobile OS Gets Upgraded

Windows Mobile OS Gets Upgraded The latest version of Windows Mobile OS was released by Microsoft on Tuesday. Windows Mobile 6.5 will be seen on the next generation of Windows phones.

It is designed to integrate the work PC, home PC and mobile phone and, thanks to The Cloud, it will allow users to work across platforms.

The clunky stylus, necessary for Mobile 6.1, will be thrown out for a more user friendly touch screen interface. Microsoft has made sure the new OS allows users to play music, open Word and Excel documents. Users may also look at the calendar, text messages and view their photos.

The Marketplace applications store has also seen an improvement. While there are only 60 applications available in the UK at the moment, the numbers are expected to increase rapidly. The Marketplace can be accessed from the phone and the web.

Other new services available are My Phone, a free password protected online backup service, where users can sync text messages, photos, video, contacts and the like to the web. This means that content will automatically upload to the web and act as an emergency storage, where everything can be downloaded onto a new handset if the phone goes missing.

For those who have purchased recent handsets and feel they will be missing out, they won’t have to worry any more as UK operators have said that customers will be able to upgrade from Windows 6.1.

New phones with Windows 6.5 include the HTC Touch HD and the LG GM750.
