Windows Mobile 7 to be Released This Year

Windows Mobile 7 to be Released This Year There have been reports that Microsoft is getting ready to unveil the new Windows Mobile 7, (WM 7) operating system at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.

The code is due to be finalised by the summer leaving the way clear for the new devices to be available later this year, according to softpedia.co.uk.

A recent post on CNet said: “Microsoft's long and winding road toward regaining lost ground in the cell phone business will reach an important milestone in Barcelona next month. At the annual Mobile World Congress event, Microsoft will at long last show off Windows Mobile 7--its oft-delayed major revamp of the decade-old Windows CE code base that has been at the core of its mobile operating system since the days of challenging the Palm Pilot.”

Already Microsoft has announced that, at the MIX10 trade show in March it will offer developers the opportunity to learn how to build apps for the new platform. So far, Microsoft has remained silent on its recent progress towards the release of the new operating system but it should all become official in a few weeks time.

Indeed, there have been no reports on details of the launch and features of the new platform despite the large number of rumours circulating. What we do know is that the new features will include touch and non touch gestures, integration with Zune and Xbox Live services and support to new users’ interfaces.

There is likely to be a close connection between mobile phones and Zune. Despite the unlikelihood of special Zune handsets, a Zune service for mobile phones is imminent and should arrive ahead of the new WM 7.
