Vodafone iPhone Available From Today
Following on from the Orange and O2 networks which started selling the iPhone in 2009, Vodafone has today started to sell Apple’s iPhone.
The iPhone package differs slightly between the mobile phone networks although the price is similar. With the 1GB of 3G data which comes as part of the monthly cost, Vodafone iPhone customers fare better than those on the Orange package.
Orange's iPhone deal includes 750MB of data, whilst O2 offers the most comprehensive package with an unlimited data offer on its iPhone.
Data seems to be an important factor in selecting the network provider for the iPhone, as research has revealed iPhone users are inclined to access the internet more frequently than phone users with different mobiles. The quality of the reception is therefore key also, The Daily Telegraph has reported.
In terms of 3G network coverage, Orange covers 93 per cent of the UK population. This compares to O2’s 84 per cent and Vodafone’s 81 per cent.
Despite Vodafone having the smallest coverage for smartphones in the UK, the company used a pizza analogy to describe its coverage. Vodafone said it had poured money into a “deep pan” 3G network – whereas its rival networks were “thin and crispy”.
The network providers need to ensure they can handle the demand from iPhone users’ data usage. O2 has spent £30 million to improve its 3G network, after having difficulties when the iPhone was first launched.
With the launch of the Google Nexus One, this year will continue to be important for the iPhone networks to maintain the competitive edge in the smartphone market.
