Vodafone email leads to Hotmail Meltdown
An Irish Vodafone customer who was trying to access their email caused a security scare when they accidently accessed another user’s account.
The Irish Independent reported that a glitch in security was discovered after the customer inadvertently stumbled into the wrong account and promptly alerted Vodafone
The news came from in an announcement from Vodafone. The glitch was a result of a communication breakdown between Vodafone and Microsoft’s respective computer servers. Fortunately the problem was contained as it only affected Vodafone’s live Internet service users who were trying to access their Hotmail accounts.
To prevent any further security breaches, the precaution was taken to suspend Hotmail services from mobile phones and BlackBerry’s on a global level. During this time on Thursday 21 May, Hotmail subscribers were able to access their email accounts on their PCs and laptops while the problem was being sorted out.
Fortunately, mobile email services were restored once the fault was easily identified and addressed. A senior technician at Vodafone said that this was the first time security had become an issue and that previously there had never been any problems over people having unauthorised access to other Hotmail accounts.
Microsoft said that the suspension of email services, due to a breach of security on mobile phones lasted only about six hours. According to Vodafone only a small proportion of its 375 million customers were directly affected. The company added that if any of its customers encountered problems regarding email on Hotmail, they could contact customer service for support.

Emails to Hotmail and MSN returned
The problem is not over. For the last three months I have been unable to send emails via Vodafone mobile on a PC to Hotmail or MSN addresses. Other addresses are fine. Several complaints to Vodafone have met with inaction. Can anyone help?

Richard, I am currently having the same problem. I have a PC with a Vodafone dongle and can't send any emails to Hotmail users. I am in discussion with Vodafone and Microsoft about this. Did you ever get your problem resolved? If so, what did you do?

Emails to Hotmail and Gmail
For some months I have been unable to send emails to 4 Hotmail and 1 Gmail address - despite phoning Vodafone and being talked through the settings the problem remains - which is, to put it mildly, extremely inconvenient. Can anyone help?

Problem with Hotmail
I switched to Vodafone at home some months back and now cannot email anyone on Hotmail - very strange. Any solutions out there?

Hotmail emails to Vodaphone addresses
I cannot send any email from my hotmail address to a Vodaphone, it comes up as invalid email address even before sending it! I also cannot send emails to Vodaphone address from Freeserve, as Vodaphone return my emails marked "your email was identified as spam!"
