Virgin Mobile Festival 2008 videos made available
It has been announced that the stand-out performances from the 2008 Virgin Mobile Festival in Baltimore will be streamed on to Virgin phones.
Virgin Mobile USA has revealed that content will be made available for its customers on its Shuttle and on Helio By Virgin handsets with no extra charge being imposed for American consumers.
The company believes that it is the first time that performances from a major festival have been made available on a mobile platform.
Those who can't wait to see the action on their mobiles can always access the clips online.
However you choose to view it, don't miss out on sampling the atmosphere of an August event which boasted arguably the best line-up of all the summer fests.
The Stooges were one of many star attractions on the Sunday. You might recognise their lead singer, a certain Iggy Pop, whose hyperactive stage presence always makes for thrilling, if unpredictable, spectating.
The band sold few records in its 1960s and 1970s incarnation, but has won gratifying acclaim following their 2003 reformation.
KT Tunstall also contributed to a great festival. Watch out for the interaction between her and drummer Luke Bullen (the couple got married last September after he proposed on the previous Christmas Day).
Tunstall first found fame after stepping in as a late replacement for another act on the Jools Holland TV show. She still plays the song she played on the show, Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, at live appearances.
For fans of modern punk rock, mobile footage of The Offspring could appeal. Guessing their set list is always tricky — they've got songs from eight studio albums to choose from.
Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings make somewhat gentler music. The band was a worthy inclusion in the Virgin festival line-up. They might not be big fans of mobile phones as they deliberately shun digital recording equipment and choose instruments which were available in the pre-1980s era.
The mobile footage is proof of mobile phone providers' determination to integrate new music content onto increasingly sophisticated mobile devices.
