iPhone 4S Battery Problem New Antennagate

Turn your iPod Touch into a mobile with new technology

Turn your iPod Touch into a mobile with new technology The ability to turn an iPod Touch into a mobile phone is now reality - thanks to newly-launched software.

UK-based company Truphone is responsible for the new breakthrough, which is free - yes, free - to download from the Apple apps store.

As if that wasn't good enough, you can use your newly-converted iPhone Touch to make free calls.

No money will be charged if you use the software to call other iPod touch owners, customers of Truphone’s internet telephony service, and to the legions of people who use the Google Talk instant messaging service.

To get up and running you will need a microphone adaptor, which will be available to buy "soon".

Truphone promises that "there is no monthly line rental, no subscription or other hidden charges".

Techcrunch.co.uk pointed out that the free service will be "limited to calls over wi-fi" but predicted that it will find plenty of takers among young people and college students for whom the idea of using the Touch to make calls over their campus networks will appeal.

The website also highlighted that mobile phone companies might not be too keen to see carriers such as Truphone take business from them, but Apple's endorsement of the service could mark a shift in attitude.

Truphone, techcrunch reported, has a technological advantage that allows its calls to have "a better sound quality and longer battery life" than those provided by many of its rivals.

Two of these rivals are Jajah and Fring. The latter has a service which also connects to Skype, which many analysts think puts it in pole position to win admirers.

But it should start looking over its shoulder as Truphone plans to add free calls and instant messaging to Skype users.

Other forthcoming attractions include free set and check facilities for Twitter and Facebook and the ability to make calls to and from landlines by setting up a Truphone account.

Those looking to save a bit of money this Christmas could do worse than check Truphone out.

"The ability to turn an iPod Touch into a mobile phone is now reality... " It has been a reality for quite some time because of Fring.
