Turbulent review for BlackBerry Storm
The BlackBerry Storm might have been touted as a rival to Apple's iPhone 3G, but makers RIM have served up a significantly inferior product, it has been claimed.
Murad Ahmed, writing a review in the Times newspaper, was almost apologetic at having to put the boot into latest BlackBerry offering as he is a self-confessed fan of the technology.
However, he said he was left disappointed on a number of levels, making criticism unavoidable.
His main grievance is that the Storm is entirely without wi-fi connectivity.
One of the main selling points of the new iPhone 3G, Mr Ahmed says, is the fact that it is possible to access the internet through wireless broadband, thus ensuring that the internet feature on the phone can be enjoyed to the full.
Significantly, the BlackBerry storm does not have this capability, which Mr Ahmed believes is a significant handicap.
And he doesn't stop there - Mr Ahmed also complains about the software on the phone which leaves users waiting to navigate between screens as they flit between listening to music and browsing the internet, for example.
Other problem areas include the battery - the Storm apparently "eats up battery life" like a phone of the prehistoric past - and a lack of applications in comparison with the iPhone 3G and Google's Android system.
Meanwhile, historic problems still remain - such as the inability to type at any great speed on the BlackBerry's tiny keyboard.
The BlackBerry Storm does have redeeming features, according to Mr Ahmed, such as its appearance ("clean and stylish"), speaker ("loud") and video quality (excellent).
Despite this, the iPhone 3G remains the market leader, Mr Ahmed suggests, just when a competitor was really needed.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 3G continues to go from strength to strength, with Pangea Software reporting that a million downloads of its games range for the mobile phone device have now been clocked up.

I'm very happy with mine
I've used mine for eight days now. Works very well. No problems. Battery life is good. Initially, you should discharge battery to 90 per cent, fully charge, and do that a couple of times. Then the battery performs properly, like any device with LiIon. I don't understand the lag time issue, I'm not getting that. Overall there could be some speed improvements but the next software update should address that shortly. A couple of people familiar with the iPhone tried my Storm, and they seemed to prefer my Storm. Go figure.

I'm ready to throw this phone across the ROOM!
This phone has frozen on me about 10 times now. I've had to take the battery out 4 or 5 times now because the phone would stay frozen. The phone is slow - takes about 4 to 5 seconds to finally get to where I want to go. My battery is dead by the end of the day. The texting sucks! Doesn't know how to spell anything you want to type. Literally 5 times I've tried to call someone and you can't hear it ring or when the other person picks up they can hear you but you can't hear them. I mean I can go on and on. I'm waiting for the software upgrade. If these problems are not fixed I'm downgrading to a CURVE!

Re:I`m ready to throw this phone across the ROOM!
Also ready to throw mine across the room after just 3 weeks. It freezes CONSTANTLY; I get that little black clock-of-death all the time. Am on this board now looking for a solution because the little black clock has now been there for 90 minutes and I can't do a damn thing about it. I would say overall the Storm is a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT.

I'm so upset about my BlackBerry Storm
When I ring, the person can't hear me. Camera doesn't work, text I can't open. This phone is giving me too much stress. The company won't exchange for another phone because it's been 1 month so I have to pay for this stupid phone that doesn't work.

Storm - GGGGRRRRR
OK, I hate this piece of junk. My phone freezes (even though I traded my initial one for a "new" one that was supposed to work properly!) and I don't have many apps assigned to this phone. I also get that stupid little black clock that spins and spins. When I called Verizon to ask about what to do, the lady acted "surprised" and told me that this was the first time she'd heard of that "clock" thing and wasn't even sure what I was talking about. She also said she wasn't aware that "freezing" was an issue with the Storm. I think Verizon had pushed propaganda on their employees with regard to this phone and has scripted them about what to say. My sales guy gave it raves. When, before my 30 days, I went to trade it in, the next sales guy raved again and showed me "new" features that caused it to function more efficiently. NOT!

Storm - JUNK!!!
I hate this phone. I have had so many freezing problems, it is not funny. This last time (it is still messed up, will not turn on or off, the little clock is taunting me, black screen, white screen, black screen, white screen, over and over) was on the web and it froze. So, I took the battery out and this is what I got. I pay way too much to have this piece of junk!
