Top iPhone Hackers Banned from App Store

Top iPhone Hackers Banned from App Store Two prominent iPhone hackers have found that Apple has banned them from accessing its App store.

The hackers are Sherif Hashim and the hacker known by the alias “iH8Sn0w”. Mr Hashim is an iPhone developer who developed a hack for the most recent iPhone model OS 3.1.3, and it was iH8Sn0w who created the XEMN tool for unlocking iPhone 3.1.3 radio baseband for the 3G and 3GS.

Both found, on attempting to access the App store earlier this week that their accounts had been deactivated, according to a report from The Register. In a tweet on Sunday 14 February Sherif Hashim said: “Your Apple ID was banned for security reasons, that's what i get when i try to go to the app store, they must be really angry :))))).”

In response, iH8Sn0w tweeted: “lol, they did that to my ih8sn0wyday<@t>googmail.com too. (right after I posted XEMN)...”

Although there were voiced concerns that Apple could ban all jailbroken iPhones from accessing the App store, in reality such a step would be bad politics on the part of the company as it would follow the launch, early this week, of the Wholesale Applications Community at the Mobile World Congress conference. It would be inappropriate for the company to prevent Apple’s application developers from selling to the millions of people who use jailbroken iPhones.

It seems that Apple’s main motive in blocking prominent hackers is to limit the development of tools that unlock and jailbreak iPhones which would adversely affect its exclusive relationship with mobile phone carriers. It would also undermine its control over the delivery of apps.
