T-Mobile Google Phone On Sale In August
The new myTouch 3G phone is to be on sale via T-Mobile USA from August and is expected to rival the Palm Pre and the latest iPhone.
The smartphone uses Google’s Android operating software and is a “slimmer and more advanced version of the G1” also manufactured by Taiwanese company HTC.
The myTouch has a touchscreen display, and sports a healthy 3.2-megapixel camera as well as a music player, and video capacity. Available in white, black and wine red, the handset is a lightweight design and has a longer battery life than its predecessor, the G1.
The theme behind the myTouch is personalisation, according to Andrew Sherrard, VC of product innovation at T-Mobile. Mr Sherrard admitted that although the rival iPhone has a “beautiful aesthetic, you can’t change it.” The myTouch has the ability to become whatever the user wants it to be by using widgets and custom home screens.
The incorporation of the Android platform also enables user preferences and can recommend other alternatives. He added that despite the weak economy, users are still seeking phones that are rich in features: “We’re still living in a recessionary environment, but people have hung onto their wireless devices. It’s become the way they communicate.”
Existing T-Mobile customers received their exclusive myTouch 3G handsets on Wednesday, but for the rest of the public the phone will be available from tomorrow. It is expected that over 50 per cent of those buying the new phone will be existing customers looking to upgrade their handsets. The US price will be $199.
