Survey reveals European men's love of mobile internet
Mobile internet browsing is becoming increasingly popular with European men, according to research conducted by M:Metrics.
Last February 36 per cent of 18 to 34-year-old male mobile owners accessed mobile media.
Men in this age category are also highly receptive to text adverts, with almost one in ten (nine per cent) responding to an SMS advert they received, compared to a four per cent market average.
Just over a quarter of all male mobile phone users accessed mobile media, compared to only 19 per cent of women.
These mobile surfers are quite young: 28 per cent of 13 to 17-year-olds 'consume' mobile media, while just 12 per cent of those aged over-55 do.
Senior analyst Paul Goode observed: "Reaching the 18 to 34-year-old age demographic is a real challenge to advertisers, as this group is spending less time consuming print and broadcast media."
The M:Metrics research found that in Britain 18 to 34 year olds make up 56 per cent of mobile media users, compared to only 29 per cent of TV viewers.
Analysts believe that simpler pricing of mobile internet services will lead to a boom in mobile advertising.
