Spotify App for iPhone Could Rival iTunes
The Swedish streaming music service, Spotify, is pioneering an app that will allow users to access and save their playlists while offline or away from a 3G network. Among the new services are over-the-air streaming of the entire library.
Users will also have access to playlists and temporarily save tracks and albums to their iPhones. These can then be accessed and enjoyed while out of Wi-Fi or network range.
The iPhone provides the perfect basis for this new development. There are rumours that the application will only be made available to premium users though, and at a cost. However, the quality and usefulness are believed to offset the projected costs.
Features such as instant access to millions of tracks may even result in some stiff competition for established giants such as iTunes, if Apple were to offer it from its App Store.
Spotify is a start-up company based in Stockholm. They recently hired a director of portable solutions, and it is projected that the new app is the start of even more exciting developments for the company. According to reports, the company will also be hiring a Symbian S60 specialist. This suggests a future partnership between Spotify and Symbian.
The new application proves Spotify to be a force of note in the world of online music and streaming services. Its new partnerships and plans certainly seem to be indicative of a healthy industry and future growth.
