RIM on Cloud 9 with BlackBerry App World 2.0
Since 1 April 2009, BlackBerry users have primarily chosen the BlackBerry App World as their main supplier. Now, reinvigorated to ensure ease of use, BlackBerry App World 2.0 has begun services to the UK.
Competing with the fiercely popular Apple Store, Research In Motion (RIM) has tweaked several features to accommodate less technologically advanced users. One such improvement is the update of the payment system.
Purchasing apps used to be possible only via PayPal, a slightly complicated system that offers more money security. In BlackBerry App World 2.0, the option for a dedicated credit account has become available, allowing users to simply enter a password to download apps.
The overall interface has also undergone a redesign, particularly the UI. Complying to customer demands, the list of top BlackBerry apps has become more defined and catalogued.
With user IDs now instrumental in most online retailers, RIM has adopted the same system. With this, users can access their transaction history and calculate their spending.
QR barcodes have shot up in popularity recently, with Android mobiles able to scan the picture to pull up the app on the Android Market. BlackBerry mobiles now also have the same capability, allowing users to scan QR codes from various media outlets or advertisements, and download the app in question.
With the focus on simplicity and seamless use, the BlackBerry App World 2.0 seems set to rival some of the bigger players in the app market, such as iPhones and the Nokia Ovi Store.
This version of the BlackBerry App World is available now as a beta preview. British consumers can access it by visiting the BlackBerry Beta Zone.
