Orange and Alcatel-Lucent Partnership Improves Healthcare

Orange and Alcatel-Lucent Partnership Improves Healthcare The healthcare market has recently become an increasingly important area of development for the electronic and mobile industry. Electronic patient record systems are for example a growing phenomenon in healthcare, which has attracted companies such as Google and Microsoft.

In the mobile industry, one of the most recent partnerships to address needs in the healthcare market is Orange and Alcatel-Lucent. According to a Computer Weekly article, the mobile phone operator Orange already provides several applications to the healthcare market.

These include speedy access to patient information, Internet access and online booking for patients, as well as remote follow-up and patient monitoring for doctors.

As part of the initiative to modernise hospitals in France by the year 2012, the communications equipment maker Alcatel-Lucent joined Orange to help improve the current technology system. The companies assisted Connected Hospitals to create an interactive communications platform, via which patient monitoring is facilitated.

IT equipment in hospitals for example includes mobile voice and data terminals, interactive terminals, patient protection systems, and the speedy flow of information. This equipment ultimately leads to better healthcare delivery to patients.

Terminals above hospital beds can also be used for phone calls, internet access, online games, e-mail, television, and access to hospital information. For doctors, these terminals provide secure access to patient records, and the ability to provide patients with immediate and accurate information regarding their condition.

The Connected Hospitals partnership also offers features such as a mobile nurse call station and tracking devices such as monitoring bracelets for patients and tags for carts, stretchers and other hospital equipment. A telephone answering service is based upon interactive voice response servers.
