Orange Improve Call Clarity with HD Voice

Orange Improve Call Clarity with HD Voice Orange has announced the update to its communications technology with a new package called HD Voice.

This is a special voice service that uses the Wideband Adaptive Multi Rate (WB-AMR) code for speech, allowing heightened sound quality.

The value of the service is that users do not need extra network resources as it has a very wide 50-7000 Hz speech bandwidth capability. This is in comparison to the current narrowband speech code which is around 300–3400 Hz.

According to the official Orange announcement, HD Voice promises “crystal clear, superior sound quality.” Announced at the very end of last year, Orange is hoping that the introduction of HD Voice will introduce a new set of standards for mobile communications and telecoms in general.

Available to all customers of Orange who have an HD Voice enabled handset, the new service offers enhanced audio quality to calls to and from mobile phones. The company is also in negotiations with handset manufacturers to develop more such devices in the following year for the industry.

The launch of HD Voice comes after two years of expansion upgrading of technology for the Orange mobile network across the UK, which sees the company currently providing more than 93 per cent of the country with high speed 3G coverage.

Tom Alexander CEO of Orange said: “HD Voice really does inject a level of innovation into mobile phone calls, making it sound as if callers are actually in the same room. Once people have tried it, they won't want to go back.”
