O2 says unlocking of iPhone is rare
Speaking to the Guardian, Steve Alder, O2's iPhone director, said: "We're seeing a really very good conversion rate of people walking out of the shop with the phone and signing up to O2."
The company is the exclusive network carrier of the Apple device - but the incentive for unlocking it is that other networks offer cheaper deals than the 18-month contract that comes with the must-have gadget.
This incentive has been eroded by yesterday's news that O2 is to revamp its tariff charges - something which provoked cynical muttering from analysts about trying to boost sales, though few existing customers are complaining.
The lowest £35 monthly tariff is to offer about three times as many texts and minutes, while the current £55 deal will be slashed to £45 at the end of the week.
As for official figures about iPhone unlocking, Mr Alder's words are as close as we'll get to knowing - Apple has maintained a 'silence is golden' policy about its enigmatic, black product.

O2 unlock
I spend a lot of time in Spain and it would be useful while I'm there to use a Spanish SIM for obvious. But with my phone locked I cannot do this.
