Nokia Ovi Store Launches, But Not in USA
Finnish giant mobile company Nokia, in competition with its smartphone competitors, officially launched its new Ovi online apps store today (26 May). Sadly, users in the US will have to wait until later this year.
The website is already abuzz with excited visitors eager to explore the online app shop where developers are now able to upload applications and customers can download what they want. On bank holiday Monday Nokia started by rolling out its new store for a few phone models in Singapore and Australia but now it is open to everyone, according to a blog post from crave.cnet.co.uk.
The new store was already so popular this morning that excited new visitors have to wait their turn patiently while trying to gain access on their mobile browser. However, in the meantime interested visitors – at the time of writing – can visit the site on their PC browser which is still slow but does work.
According to crave.cnet.co.uk it is possible to install the new Ovi Store as an application on a mobile phone so that the user doesn’t have to visit the site using a browser. However, the store was only just up and running and little success was met earlier today.
Many fans of Finnish phone company’s latest powerful smartphones are hoping that the Ovi Store application will provide a new interface to ease the procedure of installing exciting new Symbian apps on to Nokia phones now and for the foreseeable future.
Once the application has been installed, customers can buy their apps using a credit card or add the costs directly on to their phone bill.
