Nokia N86 With an Extra Feature

Nokia N86 With an Extra Feature The new N86 is Nokia’s first 8MP mobile phone and according to a report from Mobile Choice, it is also going to feature something else special. This new feature is set to enhance the media facilities offered by the device.

Nokia has already announced that the new smartphone will includes a plastic, fold-out kickstand. This enables users to watch media on the phone on a hands-free basis. This kickstand is not just a piece of plastic though, it appears to be a sensor. When the kickstand is folded out, it sets off an application that opens the movie player or if reports are to be believed, any other media application such as a photo app.

The Nokia N86 features a wide-angle Carl Zeiss Tessar™ lens which allows for photographs in any conditions. It has a very fast mechanical shutter which reduces motion blur and it carries a dual LED camera flash for both photography and video capture.

The 8GB internal memory enables 4,000 images to be stored and this memory can be upgraded with a microSD card. The N86 also sports an Active Matrix OLED screen with scratch resistant hardened glass and full sync capability with PC. It has the capacity to play up to 25 hours of music on just one charge – and now users can do it hands free!

With this latest feature announced, the Nokia N86 8MP is expected to be in demand when it comes onto the market, believed to be the second quarter of 2009. Pricing has not yet been confirmed.

Too much hype but not enough R&D on N86

This article was released before the product was in the market. But now after using it, I can say that it is more or less a let-down... at least for me.

The camera still capture images with motion blur (my old Nokia 6600 is WAY better in that sense) so I don't see any "reduction of motion blur". And the flash is just ornamental piece of dung that reduces quality of the pictures.

The device itself is bundled with so many applications but the processor (at 434MHz, 80MB), which was thought to be capable of handling 20 apps at a time, proved to be insufficient to deal with only 2 applications. Try editing videos with high quality settings and merge two files in one video, and then download new games from N-gage showroom/store in the last tab on far right. You'll get an error message citing insufficient internal memory. Once you update the device with PC Suite or Ovi software, your fate is sealed, 50MB space in the internal memory can't shake your feeling that N86-1 / 8MP was built wi

Re:Too much hype but not enough R&D on N86

th a processor meant for an electronic solar-powered calculator. It's like, you can touch but you can't taste. Well sometimes you can taste a bit, but you can't get drunk on it. My advice: if you're into gaming, go for an iPhone; if you're into work AND play (with Word & Excel needs), go for HTC TouchII. It's stability can only be appreciated if you've went through the same hell I had with my N86 8MP (which crashed every other day, within 30 days of purchase). Cause of problem with this device: premature release without proper beta testing might have been the most likely cause.
