Nexus One Faults Put Google Under Pressure

Nexus One Faults Put Google Under Pressure A week after its release the Google Nexus phone already has teething problems.

The Daily Mail reported that Google and T-Mobile’s forums have received hundreds of US customers complaining about various faults, the main criticism being the handsets connecting to T-Mobile’s EDGE network instead of the superior 3G network.

Another major complaint is a glitch with the hi-tech touchscreen where pressing one button would switch on a different function instead of the one it was supposed to activate.

Both companies have made a formal statement on their forums which read: “Google and T-Mobile are investigating this issue and hope to have more information for you soon. We understand your concern and appreciate your patience.”

The Nexus One was launched with much anticipation on 5 January, with technology experts finding the powerful processor, higher spec camera and the latest version of Google's Android software attractive.

But with faults and poor customer service are not doing the image of Google or the Nexus One any favours. Google's lack of telephone support for customers is a major failing, forcing consumers instead to have email exchanges which in some cases took up to three days for a response.

It’s not a surprise that those who paid up to $529 for the smartphone without a contract are considering returning their phones.

One dismayed user wrote on a forum: “With the lack of customer service and the 3G issues along with everything else I am leaning towards the iPhone right now. Google needs to keep the public informed on what you are doing to resolve these issues.”

Technology writer David Coursey told PC World: “The Nexus One could be a major misstep for Google and, so far, unhappy customers are proving me right.”

FM radio and WLAN BGN

The main reason I didn't buy the Nexus One is because Google has disabled the functionality of the FM radio and WLAN N. The fact that the icons on Android devices are a bit smaller also turns me off. Google still has a long way to making real money. My question is, is there not any other phone out there that can beat the iPhone? iPhones make me sick, even a primary kid has got one.
