New i-Mate is a Tough Phone for Tough Guys

New i-Mate is a Tough Phone for Tough Guys The i-Mate 810-F was officially unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) this week.

In a market where gadgets are about as reliable as the weather, this is a tough phone you can depend on.

Described as the "world’s first complete lifestyle mobile to come with a lifetime warranty," the i-Mate 810-F is as tough as they come.

The manufacturers claim that it could survive a car being driven over it, being hit with a hammer or being plunged into ice-cold water.

A series of US military standard tests has lent credence to endorse its toughness, so much so that i-Mate has issued a lifetime warranty for every 810-F purchased. With such military credentials, the i-Mate has a powerful marketing tool behind it, as the toughest and most powerful smartphone on the market.

It consists of a full QWERTY keyboard and an impact resistant touch-screen. Fully waterproof due to a rubber-sealed casing, it can also withstand extremes of pressure and humidity as well as diverse temperatures from -10°C to 60°C.

The i-Mate 810-F includes HSDPA, 2.2GB of built-in storage, GPS, Wi-Fi, a digital compass, accelerometer and Bluetooth. It also has a 624Mhz PXA processor, 2-megapixel camera. It operates on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.

Secure i-Q comes embedded in the device enabling you in the event of loss or theft, to remotely lock your device or wipe personal data or trigger an alarm.

On reflection, this is probably not the phone to buy for your teenage sons and daughters, as surely they would just see it as a challenge to stretch the limits of its durability.

However, the phone has excellent endorsements and appears to be as tough as it is claimed. So far, pricing has not been announced.
