Motorola Milestone 2 in Android Smartphone Territory
Along with Motorola's recently announced 'life-proof' Defy handset, recently previewed here at Epic Mobiles, the company has announced a second Android smartphone.
The Milestone 2 comes with several unique features that bode well for Motorola's expansion into the smartphone market. The QWERTY keyboard slides out downwards as you hold the screen in landscape format, allowing for a compact design with a simple typing layout.
Running the new 2.2 version of Android, the camera shots are displayed on a 3.7-inch, high resolution touchscreen. Boasting 5MP pictures with HD video recording, the Milestone's photography prowess includes impressive auto-focus and face tracking capabilities.
Motoblur is also part of the phone's internal workings. Designed to provide quick access to social websites such as Facebook and Twitter, this service has not yet been seen on any Motorola Milestone product. Advanced settings such as Facebook filtering and sending updates to the phone's homescreen are also possible.
The keypad retains the compact appearance of previous Milestone models, while removing or improving several features due to customer demand. The four-line QWERTY keys are raised for easier texting, alongside directional keys and search and speech command buttons.
Seven homescreens provide plenty of room for widgets, and as with the Motorola Flipout, these can be modified and moved with a simple dragging system. Supporting DLNA media transfer, which allows wireless communication with technology such as the PlayStation 3, the Milestone also acts as a modem for the 3G Mobile Hotspot app.
The Motorola Milestone is expected to launch towards the end of 2010, while pricing information should be issued nearer the release date.
