Moon Landing Commemorated by Motorola

Moon Landing Commemorated by Motorola The new AURA Celestial Edition from Motorola is a limited edition handset from Motorola to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the moon landing.

The cost is pretty astronomical at £1,400 but maybe for those who are keen to preserve history, this memento of the moon landing is worth the high price tag.

The handset is basically the same as the original AURA, with a circular screen and a liquid-crystal display. The handset will be preloaded with special content from NASA. The phone will also have this quote etched on to the handset: “Motorola AURA Celestial Edition, Honouring the Apollo 11 mission, 20th July 1969.”

The NASA content is geared towards the Apollo landings, with videos and stills from the epic event. There are also sound files that commemorate the landings, including the most famous of all from the first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong: “That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

The handset is due for release this month, along with nine postcards specially commissioned by Motorola. It incorporates EDGE download speeds for browsing the internet. However, according to the Mobile Choice review of the original AURA, the phone is quite disappointing in terms of features. “The AURA follows the luxury phone rule of being big on design but light on features.” It does boast a very good battery life though.

Interestingly, Motorola was involved in the event as it was a Motorola radio transponder used to transmit the first images and words from 20 July 1969, the first moon landing.
