Lycamobile Optimistic About Customer Numbers
Lycamobile has recently tripled its customer target to a global figure of 15-20 million, with a 65 per cent projected market share in the UK. Having launched in September 2008, the company has gained nearly one million UK customers within the nine months of its existence.
The provider, backed by Orange, initially stated that it would gain 1.2 million customers within its first year of operation. This figure would be gained through aggressive pricing, marketing and distribution.
The recent customer numbers have encouraged the company and its chief executive, Milind Kangle, to more than double their initial prepay customer forecast of seven million by 2011, to 15-20 million. Furthermore, Mr Kangle also noted that 30 per cent of these customers would be UK residents.
Mr Kangle said: “It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see we’re gaining momentum. We’re hell bent on being a benchmark company and must buy and sell aggressively, which is evident in our existing propositions.”
One of the company’s new services aims to make accessing their mobile account balance easier for customers via a fixed-mobile convergence product to be launched in June 2009. This product will provide landline access to customers’ mobile account balances.
If the existing customer numbers and the company’s progress are any indication, it seems more than possible that Lycamobile will reach both its short and long-term goals. The company’s strategy of value for money and innovative products puts it at the top of the provider list in the UK and in the world.
