LG Targets Apple with Optimus Range
Joining the battle against the rise of the iPhone 4 and iPad is LG’s newest range of smart devices, the Optimus collection.
Covering a range of 10 mobile devices, the group will function under Google’s Android operating system, and includes LG’s first entry into the tablet market. Targeting all areas of the market, from low-end mobiles to the innovative elite, LG has already revealed some details of two of the new devices.
The LG Optimus One and Optimus Chic will both become available with the latest version of Android and offer functions previously unseen on LG phones.
Technical details on both handsets are currently unavailable, but LG has posted several teaser statements. Ease of use has been promised on the Optimus One, with "a convenient user interface and diverse multimedia options", suggesting a focus on the phone’s media abilities. In addition to this, the phone’s powerful connectivity has been guaranteed, with the latest Google features allowing it to connect "seamlessly".
The Optimus Chic is equally mysterious, though it has been confirmed to be a smartphone. Revamping the traditional image of Android phones lacking style, the Chic will target fashion aficionados and "set a new standard for smartphone design".
The Optimus range remains veiled for the moment, but the announcement itself is already generating interest about network and pricing plans.
CEO and president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, Dr Skott Ahn, commented: "The LG Optimus Series is aimed at challenging the notion that one device can meet the needs of many. At LG, we believe in providing people with many different choices because our customers are not all alike. We want to provide devices that suit all needs and simplify people’s lives."
