Have a fabulous Tapulous Xmas with new iPhone music game
Many music fans' Christmas Day celebrations could be brightened up by a new video game built exclusively for the iPhone by Tapulous.
The clue to the nature of the game is in the name of the company. Just launched yesterday (December 4th), the Tap Tap Dance game challenges gamers to stay in rhythm with songs by tapping their iPhone's touchscreen in time with the music.
An earlier version of the game called Tap Tap Revenge was the most popular iPhone game in 2008 and was free to download.
The goal of the game is to tap one of the colored balls that appear on the screen when they reach the line at the bottom of the screen. You gain points when you hit the ball on the 'beat' of the song.
Shakes of the iPhone can also earn extra points if they are in sync with the music playing.
Earlier this month it was revealed that US band Weezer (their biggest hit was the catchy pop song Buddy Holly) were recording six Christmas carols for a special version of Tap Tap Revenge.
According to AFP news agency, Weezer fans often wave iPhones showing on-screen virtual lighter flames at the band's gigs.
The BBC has reported that Tapulous achieved a breakthrough when stadium act Nine Inch Nails (NIN) asked if it could come up with a new soundtrack that plays to the beat of the game.
Tickets to NIN concerts can be won if you score highly on the group's special edition of Tap Tap Revenge (which costs £3.30 to download) and submit your marks to a competition hotline.
"Trent Reznor [NIN lead singer] is really a trend setter in the industry and it's really helped us accelerate our partnerships," a Tabulous spokesman told the BBC.
Tap Tap Dance features dance-music from household names such as Moby, Daft Punk, Justice and Chemical Brothers.
You can download the game from the Apple App Store.
