HTC to Launch Pivotal Windows Mobile 7 HD3 Phone

HTC to Launch Pivotal Windows Mobile 7 HD3 Phone HTC is planning to launch a new HD3 Windows Phone 7 in the UK next week according to unconfirmed sources.

The Taiwanese mobile manufacturer has recently shown a preference for Android-based phones over Windows Mobile models, but is expected to announce the new Windows handset at an upcoming event in London. The new HTC HD3 is a follow-on from the HD2 Windows Mobile model and is expected, according to a report on the Smarthouse website, to have stronger power-management capabilities.

However, it will lack the huge range of apps offered with other systems, as Microsoft has not been able to attract the same number smartphone applications developers for its platform as Android and Apple have.

The new phone, codenamed 6HTHD7XM, boasts a 4.5-inch AMOLED touchscreen. This comes in at a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. It also sports a dual core 1.5GHz ARM-based processor, with 1GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Wi-Fi comes as standard and for the camera element it carries an 8MP camera with two LED flashes. It also has an HDMI port and HD recording capabilities.

The device will first go on sale in Australia and insiders say that Microsoft has thrown a huge amount of cash behind the launch in order to try and get a foothold back in the smartphone market. This comes as Android handsets and Apple iPhones have taken a large market share over Windows Mobile phones.

The announcement of the new HTC/Windows phone will take place on 15 September, when the company is also expected to introduce a new Android-based tablet.
