Google snaps up mobile blogging company

Google snaps up mobile blogging company Google announced yesterday, that it has acquired Finnish company Jaiku, which offers a mobile phone software application that lets users post and browse short messages called 'jaikus'.

Jaiku's specially-developed technology allows people to 'microblog' and have conversations across their phones and computers.

Google's endorsement of the product will be seen by the industry as a sign that the age of social networking and blogging via mobiles could be just around the corner.

But it is worth noting that it could be a false dawn - Google recently bought and shelved a similar service called Dodgeball.

Google product manager Tony Hsieh, appropriately, chose to record his reaction to the new acquisition on a blog site.

He thinks that using Jaiku technology will help modern people with "fast warp" lifestyles stay in touch "whether they're at a computer or on a mobile phone".

"We are looking forward to working with Jaiku on new and innovative ways of keeping people connected", he wrote.

While this process takes place, Jaiku announced that new user sign-ups are closed.
