Google by Voice and Location on a BlackBerry
Two new features have been launched by Google for BlackBerry mobiles (although they are not available for the Storm). These two new additions to the Google Mobile App are aimed at the smartphone to make life simpler and easier.
Search by voice is easily and simply activated. All the user has to do is press and hold down the call button on the apps primary search screen. When you pronounce the name of the person you want to get hold of, Google will present the results direct to your phone and you can choose from the list.
The other new feature has been introduced to help you geographically. My Location will locate what you need in your areas – for example shops, bars, restaurants, etc – and return results searching specifically in the area you are currently located.
As Google has pointed out, the voice search technology is a very useful aid when faced with unusual or hard words to pronounce or spell. For instance, those who may not have a clue how to spell Leicester Square (lester square phonetically) or Bicester (bister) can be helped as Google will recognise the name and come up with the correct spelling.
As an added bonus, Google has decided to add another useful feature to the Search by voice facility – support for spoken British English. Getting hold of the applications is simple as BlackBerry users simply point their web browsers to the website and download the apps from there.
