Google Improve Mobile Search

Google Improve Mobile Search Google, who are dominating the mobile search market, want to make accessing their search engine even easier for mobile users.

The search giant hopes to achieve this through optimising its search results for a variety of different handsets and languages.

Google have started with iPhones and Android-powered devices, making search results load faster and look better on the smaller screens. The aim is to bring that format to various handsets in over 60 countries and 38 languages.

Google announced on its mobile blog: “Whether you have a smartphone or a feature phone, if you have mobile Internet access you can get the new mobile-optimized Google Search results pages on your phone just about anywhere in the world. Just go to Google.com in your browser and do a search.”

As well as all the normal Google products which web users have come to expect, including Google News, Images, Maps and Product Search, the search engine will cater specifically to the mobile audience. For example, when searching for a local restaurant, Google will display the phone number as the prominent information rather than the local reviews.

Google believes that mobile advertising space is a valuable commodity, with CEO Eric Schmidt even saying that mobile advertising will one day generate more revenue than online advertising on the web.

That notion seems to be justified, as a report from the Kelsey Group showed the market for mobile search ads will balloon to $1.3 billion in less then 4 years time. Last year the market for mobile search ads was worth $20 million.

Google seem one step ahead and have not only brought its lucrative AdSense program to the mobile web but allowed mobile developers to use it in mobile applications.
