Get ready for the G1 Google phone
Expect queues in mobile phone shops next Thursday (30 October) — the day when T-Mobile's long-awaited G1 phone with Google is released in the United Kingdom.
Google's Android operating system will help the phone have the capabilities of a pocket computer and further increase the profile of the Google search engine.
As an appetiser for the big day T-Mobile has released a list of 50 applications that new G1 phone owners can download for free to make their mobile the envy of their friends.
There are two eye-catching applications which scan barcodes to help users locate the cheapest place to buy a product.
On a more frivolous note, Krystle II turns your mobile into a virtual pet. Perhaps you'd like to talk to it in a foreign language by using the Translate application?
Newshounds will be catered for through apps such as Pro Football Live, a service that brings you the latest football news and scores.
Music lovers will be pleased to hear that Shazam can be downloaded onto the G1. This handy piece of technology identifies the song that you are listening to — ideal for cheating in pub quizzes.
The impressively-named Ringdroid lets you create ringtones and if that doesn't satisfy your creative urges then there is also BlueBrush which lets you draw on the same canvas as your friends.
No mobile is complete without applications that help put you on the map and find out where the hottest events are taking place. Panoramio will find pictures of interesting places in your area and the BreadCrumbz navigation tool allows users to overlay maps with photos and voice notes about local landmarks or amenities.
Still at a loss as to what to do? What about event and friend-finder e-ventr?
The G1 is being touted as a potential competitor to Apple's iPhone, which has sold around 10 million devices since it first went on sale in July last year.
It will be available for free on several of T-Mobile's £40 per month contracts.
According to The Daily Telegraph, T-Mobile has revealed that 25,000 people have already expressed an interest in buying the device.
