Camera phone photographers focus on new competition
Sony Ericsson has invited budding David Baileys to use their mobile phones to enter 'The Search' - their new camera phone photographer of the year competition.
Members of the public can upload their best snaps online to tackle challenges in four categories: fashion, adventure, news and sport. Prizes including a round-the-world-trip for two people and many Sony Ericsson cyber-shot K810i and K850i await the lucky winners.
John Harber, managing director of Sony Ericsson UK & Ireland, can't see any negatives associated with the competition. He said: The camera phone and increased image clarity has meant the mobile is spearheading a photographic revolution."
To promote greater exposure for the competition Sony has commissioned research to find out which photos are best remembered by the public.
In the best fashion outfit picture category a shot of Madonna in a cone bra during her muscle-bound peroxide blonde period was nominated by 17 per cent of respondents. Sixteen per cent of people made the snap decision to choose a portrait of Geri Halliwell in a union jack mini dress at the Brit awards.
With the advent of citizen journalism the enduring images of future polls might well be taken by mobile phone owners in the right place at the right time.
