Blyk to offer free services in Europe
Finnish company, Blyk has announced plans to spread further into Europe soon, following the success of its UK operations, The Daily Telegraph has reported.
The company, which offers free mobile phone services to 16-to-24 year olds, will launch in the Belgian, Spanish, and German markets - all well established and highly competitive.
Blyk has not announced its revenue as it is a private company, but it has so far represented 110 brands, and has carried out over 900 ad campaigns, including some for British band the Kooks, Penguin publishers, and Coca-Cola.
Speaking of the company's plans to expand in Belgium, Blyk president, Pekka Ala-Pietilä said: "(Belgium) is an excellent test bed to learn more in a smaller market - per capita, Belgium is actually the third largest advertising market in Europe.
The move comes as users can expect to see more and more advertising on their mobiles.
With the introduction of 3G mobiles, users will see adverts as they browse mobile websites, and as tags at the end of emails, as is currently seen online.
"Young people perceive adverts not as adverts, but as content. There is a great deal of common ground and they can be influenced by the adverts," added Mr Ala-Pietilä.
