BlackBerry Gets Touchy With OS6

BlackBerry Gets Touchy With OS6 RIM has released a video showcasing its latest firmware for the BlackBerry device. Aimed at touchscreen devices, the new software features multi-touch support.

Andrew Bocking, the VP of Handheld Software Product Management, had this to say: "In the almost 10 years I’ve worked at Research In Motion (RIM), I’ve never been as excited about a BlackBerry software launch as I am for BlackBerry 6, which is on track for release this summer. I’m absolutely in love with the BlackBerry 6 experience and I expect other long time users like me will feel the same. I also think the wide range of changes and added features in BlackBerry 6 will attract a lot of new users to the BlackBerry platform."

New features of BlackBerry’s latest firmware include a Social Feeds app. Pulling down information from all your social networks, the app will display all the updates and latest news to come out of your circle of friends.

A text magnifier, universal search and context sensitive pop-up menus have all been included as part of the impressive user interface. GigaOM.com commented: "The new BlackBerry OS 6 interface has definite underpinnings in Apple’s iOS4 look and feel."

Also available is an updated BlackBerry Messenger application and a high standard RSS feeder making sure that you are on top of what's happening.

While the launch date is still unknown, the fact that a video has been released suggests that the software is imminent. RIM is expected to reveal more details in the summer and then release it in late 2010, according to numerous sources.
