Android No-Go As HTC Stick With Windows Mobile

Android No-Go As HTC Stick With Windows Mobile If you were someone who was drooling at the prospect of seeing an Android version of the HTC’s HD2 smartphone, then you're going to have to wipe your mouth and be disappointed as HTC have denied rumours that this will happen.

Instead, the company will stick with Windows Mobile, even though the chief executive of HTC has said that the OS still needs work.

The HD2 features a 4.3in touchscreen and blisteringly fast 1GHz Snapdragon processor. However, one drawback – according to PC Pro – is that it will be powered by Windows Mobile 6.5, with the website claiming that it is “simply not good enough.”

The reason for the speculation for HTC creating an Android version of their smartphone was due to their trying out the operating system on the Magic and Hero smartphones.

However, Peter Chou set the record straight when it came to their widely anticipated HD2: “Technically, we could make the HD2 an Android phone, but I have to take care of Windows Mobile. Windows Mobile innovation has been a little slow and interest in Windows Mobile phones has been declining.”

Chou said they were working on getting more people to accept Windows Mobile: “We're working hard on these kinds of products to get excitement about Windows Mobile back.”

Details on the financial agreements HTC has with Microsoft were not elaborated on, but Chou said that the loyalty to the OS was because of their long partnership, which the chief executive hopes to replicate with Google: “We've worked with Microsoft for 13 years. I also believe we can work with Google for a long time.”

However, Chou did also say that “do things differently from the rest of the industry” could be “destructive.”
