Alcatels First Android Design Announced
Following the general trend to get Android based phones onto the market, Alcatel has announced that it is launching a new mobile phone which is to be known as the Alcatel OT-980.
This is the first handset from the company that is based on the Android operating system.
Bearing remarkable similarities to the Palm Pre, the new Alcatel OT-980, will be launched as a prototype at the MWC 2010 Show in Barcelona later this month.
As mentioned on the Into Mobile website, the new handset is a slider smartphone which runs on the 1.6 operating system. It features Wi-Fi, A-GPS and 3G for faster data transfers as well as a 600 MHz processor. It boasts 192 MB of RAM and a 2-megapixel camera. Also included in the specification is compass, accelerometer, microUSB plug and a microSD memory card slot.
The new Alcatel OT-780 has a 1150 mAh battery for longer life and it is expected to be aimed at the entry level market. From the video released onto YouTube, the phone has a QVGA touchscreen and an on screen keyboard.
Pricing and details of where and when it will first appear are not available at the moment but it is expected to be very reasonably priced, less expensive than the comparable HTC Tattoo. Considering what the handset offers, this is deemed a value for money entry phone.
According to sources, the new handset is to be released on the Orange network within the next few months.
