Alcatel-Lucent Prepare for 4G Internet Heavy Mobiles

Alcatel-Lucent Prepare for 4G Internet Heavy Mobiles Alcatel-Lucent introduced its new Ultimate Wireless Packet Core to include more advanced mobile internet services to subscribers.

In order to cope with increasing competition in the mobile sector, and an increasing demand for mobile internet, Alcatel-Lucent is offering new ways to “get a handle on the current mobile data explosion,” according to Basil Alwan, the company's head of carrier strategy.

The Ultimate Wireless offering includes new technology such as the Alcatel-Lucent 5780 Dynamic Services Controller. This uses PCRF (Policy Charging and Rules Function) as a platform upon which more advanced services in 3G and LTE (Long-Term Evolution) can be based.

The services will apply to both mobile and wired broadband networks. Alcatel-Lucent indicated that the 5780 Dynamic Services Controller can be applied to applications and services in a variety of ways.

It can, for example, be used for improved performance for one application or service; or it can boost performance for all applications. Operators can then offer the services at different prices, where subscribers can choose which suits them best.

The 5780 Dynamic Services Controller improves performance by sending instructions to the 7750 Service Router. This will then result in better performance for certain applications and services, as specified by the subscriber options.

Richard Webb, directing analyst at Infonetics, told PC World in an interview: “The move to LTE gives all operators the chance to shift their business models and introduce new pricing plans.” According to Alcatel-Lucent, the new technology is currently in the trial process, and will be available during the second half of 2010.
