Afroman gets high in the ringtone charts

Afroman is again scaling the dizzy reaches of Billboard's ringtone chart with his smash hit Because I Got High.

The song is the 33-year-old Californian rapper-guitarist's signature tune, winning coveted airplay on shock jock Howard Stern's radio show shortly after its 2001 release.

After its inclusion on the soundtrack to the slacker movie Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, its success was ensured.

Afroman's lyrics often contain witty, self-deprecating references to his struggle to reconcile life as a Christian with his love of rap's hard-living lifestyle.

A brief listen to any of his lyrics seem to suggest that his preoccupations with drugs, women and alcohol normally seem to have the upper hand.

Grupo Montez de Durango's Adios Amor Te Vas has reclaimed the ringtone top spot after a close-fought sales battle with Henry Mancini's Pink Panther.
