25 percent of young Brits 'addicted' to mobile phones

25 percent of young Brits addicted to mobile phones A survey has tapped into the mindsets of Europe's handset owners to discover that a quarter of Britons aged 16-24 are "addicted" to their mobile phone.

Research conducted by Carphone Warehouse and the London School of Economics as part of the ongoing Mobile Life forum, highlighted that people's attitudes towards mobile phone use varied significantly between countries - only eight per cent of German youngsters were addicted to their devices.

The survey questioned 5,000 people in Spain, France, Sweden and Germany.

Half of all respondents said they would sneak a look at their partner's text messages without telling them.

One in five send X-rated texts, with the Swedes sending the most.

One-third of young Britons said they would feel unwanted if their answer phone or text inbox had no messages for one day - so it's just as well that the nation sends the most text messages of the countries taking part in the survey.

Researchers will have to hope that the answers they based their statistics on are truthful - 60 per cent of people in Europe think text messaging has made lying more common, with this figure standing at 70 per cent in the UK.

Mobile Phones

There is an ongoing debate as to whether teens are addicted to their phones or not. Personally, I would have never researched it if I didn't have to do it as a piece of AS-level coursework. Now that I have, I find it very interesting and have realised that I am also an addict of mobile phones and I believe every teen needs to be aware of this so that it can change. I am now going to stop using my phone as much as I do and I think if teens are aware about this addiction then they will also cut down and this debate will end.
