2008 - the year of the mobile internet?
panel of mobile advertising experts has discussed what next year holds for advertisers looking to promote their brands on handsets.
The Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) mobile council has concluded that: "Technology isn't the biggest barrier for mobile internet, it's the public's perception that mobile internet is difficult and expensive to use."
But the IAB believes that attitudes could soon be changing, as touch screen devices like Apple's new iPhone make it simpler, quicker and cheaper to browse and interact online.
One of the barriers to customers using the internet on mobiles is the increasingly small size of the devices' screens, though this hasn't deterred Google from providing access to mobile-specific paid searches.
Lads' mags FHM and Loaded clearly see a future in the mobile internet, offering banner advertising on their sites.
IAB head of research Laurence Bird advises potential mobile advertisers to "investigate mobile and think about how your brand can work on the medium then practice a little.
"Why not establish a mobile web presence? The baby steps you take now will help your brand when the boom happens.
